About Me

Building Systems with a Focus on Creating Art

I see all systems as art. Whether it’s building software, automating workflows, or writing the picture perfect content strategy. Studying different crafts and finding the patterns that connect them has shaped how I approach work, and everything that I do.

Outside of work I like fly fishing small lakes and streams, Fallout, guitar, and playing fetch with my King-Charles spaniel. He’s great.

Communications Coordinator

Currently working as a Communications Coordinator that acts in the position of bridging the many gaps that exist between IT and Communications.

With a unique, well-rounded background in both fields of Communications and IT, I have found great success in tackling long withstanding web projects with ease, automating processes using under-utilized tools, and saving thousands of dollars in consulting fees in the process.

2021 - 2024

Software Developer | GIS

Acted as a core software developer that was depended on to be highly adept in multiple facets of Full Stack Software Engineering, Business Analysis, Data Management, DevOps, System Admin, GIS, and Marketing.

In my time, I have taken the lead and accomplished numerous high-impact applications that have completely revolutionized the way the company conducts internal business. For example, I have successfully created an application that has fully automated the company’s onboarding and termination processes of new hires and terminated employees. I have also developed a company-mandated vacation request application that is now routinely used by every employee at the company. Both of these applications have been recorded to have saved countless hours of time and labour by senior managers and high-investment employees.

On top of this, I was also responsible for a number of GIS systems, tools, and processes within the workplace, along with delivering marketing presentations of our software platform.

2020 - 2021

GIS Technician

Started in the position performing regular technician duties of data management, maintenance, retrieval, geospatial analysis, report generation and cartographic visualization.

Once my programming skill set was displayed through a series of projects, I was quickly brought onto our in-house software built in the .NET framework to build new features and fix bugs of varying complexity in C#.

From there, my daily duties progressively moved away from operational GIS to software development and more complex geospatial software integrations.

2019

Land Use Planner

Hired on contract to complete a digitization project of the department’s geohazard assessments. The project was estimated to take 4 months in which I completed in 3 weeks.

To fill the remainder of my term I completed everything from board report assistance, site setback measurements, and data organization.

2017 - 2018

Geomatics Specialist

Acted as the company GIS representative on the BC Hydro Site C project for surveying and mapping the flood line.

Took lead on the implementation of new innovative survey hardware and software to meet contract specifications of the BC Hydro project.

Completed various LiDAR programming scripts to save hours in point classification labour.

Routinely output high quality Geometric Road Designs for Road Engineering.

2017

Programmer

Hired after my internship to work full time contract as a programmer on GE's Smallworld utility asset management software. The majority of my time was spent working in the Magik programming language on the backend, a language most similar to Java.

When not programming I was most often assigned QAQC of new features and code reviews.

2017

Software Engineering Intern

Learned the fundamentals of Agile software development working on GE's Smallworld software writing in the Magik language (most similar to Java).

For a final project I built a network tracing tool that printed out a csv file of all properties impacted by an unexpected power outage caused by a damaged power line.

Due to high quality output during my internship, I was hired on contract afterwards to continue my work.

2016 - 2017

Marketing Consultant

On a part time basis I worked with a geospatial startup based out of San Fransisco to build out the company's customer success stories for their main website and various marketing campaigns.

In this role, I bridged the gap between the Marketing and Software Engineering teams to conduct customer interviews with highly technical customers, and translate their complex feedback into a clear, marketable content that was readable by non-technical audiences.

On top of this I also wrote white papers on the software's unique value propositions in the highly competitive mobile data collection niche.

Currently fine tuning my defensive coding and secure system design skills by working through the OWASP Juice Shop challenges on Kali Linux. The end goal is to sharpen my ability to identify and mitigate web application security vulnerabilities more efficiently.
